  • Mie Kondo (HESO-KUMA)
  • Mie Kondo started collecting teddy bears just after she got married in 1984. After 15 years of being a collector, she decided to make her very own bears in 1999. Since then, Mie has participated in many teddy bear events and conventions and had also made teddy bears that were featured in advertisements.

In 2002, Mie created teddy bears with red flower dyeing method and it was an instant hit. Encouraged by this success, she followed up with a series of teddy bears with birthday-stone in navel under the brand name “HESO-KUMA”. Soon, she was making bears with genuine crystals added to the paws and navel, and her 2006 collection featured black diamond eyes and navel with 24K gold threaded nose. Mie’s constant experimenting with different teddy bear making techniques has yielded rewards in recent years, making her one of the most sought after artists in Japan.
  • Yuko Nakayama
  • After graduating from college, Yuko Nakayama worked in the handbag design and sales department of an apparel company, and gained valuable experience in which she applied to the design of her bears. Yuko has been making teddy bears for the past 10 years, and had took part in numerous teddy bear trade shows held in Japan as well as other parts of Asia. In 2004, she won 1st prize in the 12 inches dressed bear category at the 3rd Seoul Teddy Bear Festival.

Christy makes teddy bears that range from 4" to 15" and over, and she is mostly recognized for her Victorian costumed bears.

Currently, Christy works as a sales associate for Neiman-Marcus in the Couture department and spent the rest of her time sewing bears and participating in teddy bear trade shows. She took part in past trade shows held in Singapore, and look forward to meeting the collectors in this year’s show.
  • Mac Pohlen (Mac Animals)
  • Mac Pohlen has always favored naked bears of a clean and simple line. In most cases, the bear should be able to make a statement through his expression and body style. Hats and/or clothing are sometimes added for a bit of whimsy. She likes to make classic teddies that will live from generation to generation to carry on the traditions of family, kindness, loyalty and patience. To Mac, the perfect bear is one that will age gracefully; a bear that you never get tired of looking at no matter if he acquires a few wrinkles around the eyes, a stomach that goes to paunch or a back that slowly humps.

Mac has been making bears for 24 years, and exhibited her creations in England, Germany, Paris, Holland, Tokyo, Singapore, Walt Disney World, Disneyland, New York, Chicago, San Diego and Switzerland. Through the years she has taught the art of teddy bear making in many of these countries, as well. She finds great pleasure in meeting her collectors of her work.
